Unforgettable experiences in Rome
The highly anticipated annual Rome trip took place at the beginning of July, with Year 10 and 11 students jetting off to experience a city brimming with history, culture and the promise of unforgettable experiences.
The first day kicked off with visiting the infamous Trevi Fountain where many students and staff tossed coins over their shoulders and made their wishes alongside many other tourists. The breathtaking views of the fountain, combined with the energy of the crowd, set the perfect tone for the rest of the trip. The rest of the day was spent exploring many other iconic landmarks, including the Pantheon and the Spanish Steps, before indulging in authentic Italian cuisine for dinner.

The following day, students and staff ventured to the Vatican to take in the incredible sights of St Peter’s Basilica and the vast collection of art and history within the Vatican Museums. It was a humbling experience that resonated deeply with everyone – way beyond what they had imagined. Afterward, they explored the city and enjoyed a bit of shopping before ending the day with a fantastic al fresco dinner experience and a delicious gelato under the Roman sky.

The third day took our students and staff further back in time as they explored the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. They could almost hear the echoes of gladiators and the ancient Romans! The Colosseum, with its imposing structure and rich history, left them all in awe whilst the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill provided a glimpse into the everyday life of ancient Rome, enriching our students’ understanding of the city's historical significance.

Thanks to the incredible donations from our GoFundMe campaign, our students were treated to an authentic pizza experience in a beautiful, scenic restaurant. They savoured every bite as they shared their final meal together, reflecting on an incredible trip and experiences. On the last day, the group visited one final, beautiful church and did some souvenir shopping, with many buying bracelets and other mementos to remember their trip.
Ms Tragheim, Head of RE commented:
Rome was more than just a school trip; it was an eye-opening experience that ignited a desire in many of us to see more of the world. We learned about history, art, and culture, but also about ourselves and each other. This journey taught us the importance of exploring new places and opened our eyes to the wonders that lie beyond our everyday experiences. It was also a time to strengthen new friendships and cherish old ones, especially for those Year 11 students who will be graduating soon, and moving on to pastures new.
