Making an Impact to Our Wider Community

Earlier this Year during the season of Lent, our school community led by the Lenten Team, came together to take action, show compassion, and make a real difference through two important projects.

The first was an Own Clothes Day held in support of Mary’s Meals, a charity whose vision is simple but powerful: that every child should receive one daily meal in their place of education. This small act can have a huge impact—helping children stay in school and giving them the nourishment they need to learn and grow. Mary’s Meals says that just £5 can provide a nutritious school meal for 50 children, and £19.50 can feed a child every school day for a whole year. Thanks to the generosity of our students, families, and staff, we raised an incredible £540. This contribution will go a long way in supporting children in some of the world’s poorest communities.

Our second Lenten initiative focused much closer to home. We organised a Food Bank collection for The Community Fridge, based out of St George’s Cathedral, Southwark. This project gave us the opportunity to support those in need within our own community. Thanks again to the generosity of our students, with the help of their parents, and staff brought in donations of non-perishable food items.

The Community Fridge aims to help those in our local community cope with the cost-of-living crisis at the same time as preventing tonnes of good food going to waste. When our Lenten Team delivered our Food Bank donation, they also volunteered their time and got to work helping Di Blackler and her amazing team of volunteers to sort, label, move and organise produce for The Community Fridge that is open to the public every Friday.

A huge Congratulations goes out to 8P, as a form class of 25 students they collectively donated 87 items to our Food Bank collections.

These two projects reminded us of the true meaning of Lent—alms giving, sharing, and standing in solidarity with others. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed, Your kindness and compassion are what make our School community so special.
