St Oscar Romero Catholic Academy Trust

ADMISSIONS

Notre Dame Catholic Girls’ School was founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame to provide education for girls of Roman Catholic families.

It is a member of the St Oscar Romero Trust in the Diocese of Southwark and is in the trusteeship of the Diocese of Southwark. The school is conducted by its local governing body as part of the Catholic Church in accordance with its Trust Deed and Instrument of Government, and seeks at all times to be a witness to Jesus Christ.

The school exists primarily to serve the Catholic community and Catholic girls always have priority of admission. However, the Local Governing Body also welcomes applications from those of other denominations and faiths or of no faith who support the religious ethos of the school.

Parents whose applications for places are unsuccessful may appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel set up in accordance with section 94 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. Appeals must be made in writing and must set out the reasons on which the appeal is made. Appeals should be made to the Admissions Appeal Clerk at the school address. Parents/Carers have the right to make oral representations to the Appeal Panel.

Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan

The admission of pupils with an EHC Plan is dealt with by a completely separate procedure. The procedure is integral to the making and maintaining of EHC plans by the pupil’s home local authority. Details of this separate procedure are set out in the SEND code of practice. Pupils with an EHC plan naming the school will be admitted without reference to the above criteria.

In year admissions

An in-year application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the admission round and the child will be admitted where there are available places. Application should be made to the school by contacting the Admissions Officer at the school. Where there are places available but more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria, as set out above, will be applied. If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list (see below). You will be advised of the outcome of your application in writing within 10 school days and you have the right of appeal to an independent appeal panel.

Process of Admissions

  •  School is sent a list of applicants from all London LAs
  •  Governors apply the Admissions Criteria
  •  Applicants placed in rank order and list sent to LA
  •  LA offer places according to the preference list

Please ensure that you put your choice of schools in the order you would like them, with your first choice as number one, and complete the supplementary form for Notre Dame.

These admissions procedures, although primarily relevant to children for whom a place is sought at the normal age of transfer to secondary education (Year 7), will also apply to succeeding years, and be subject to the availability of places
